FLOW FACTOR: The South Grove Fifth Grade Viscosity Challenge

FLOW FACTOR: The South Grove Fifth Grade Viscosity Challenge

In this hands-on fifth-grade science lesson, students investigated the property of matter known as viscosity. By timing how quickly water, dish soap, vegetable oil, and corn syrup traveled down a track, they were able to compare the internal friction, or "thickness," of each liquid. This experiment helped students understand why some liquids flow easily and others are more resistant to movement.
